(31 May, 2021) Mr. Jason Kuang, Head of Digital Industries of Siemens, visited FLAIR today to share his insights with the researchers on the implementation of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation.

Mr. Kuang, with rich experience in project management and cross-cultural collaboration, explained that digitalisation of industrial production is all about turning big data into SMART data in which the change would substantially enhance the overall productivity as well as the quality of products. By sharing successful cases of automated manufacturing that aided with digital logistics, he highlighted the process requires continuous optimization, connection and integration to meet the emerging challenges from market, with an ultimate goal to realize intelligent manufacturing.

In the sharing session, Mr. Kuang believed that the key to achieve intelligent manufacturing is to apply technology that can monitor the plant and analyse its real-time data to train and optimise the virtual module, while at the same time generating meaningful insights from simulation to improve the quality and output of its real production. He also shared some examples of how to apply Siemens’ MindSphere, an open cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) operating system, to optimise the operation of pumps and electricity, thereby reducing energy consumption and solving the pain points of enterprises at low-cost.

To make Hong Kong as an innovation hub for integrated industries, Mr. Kuang said we had to proactively nurture our digital talents and empowered enterprises through digital transformation for successful industry upgrading and transformation. At the end of the session, He indicated his interest to establish a productive partnership with FLAIR and continue to join hands in exploring possibilities for the future of manufacturing.
