Flexible production technology is essential to handle high mixed and low volume manufacturing requests. Flexible production enables customized mass production efficiently and effectively. Moreover, it will facilitate the high-margin advanced manufacturing take place in Hong Kong, such high expensive urban city, to provide personalized and short lifecycle products in high quality to respond the rapid developing market agilely.
Research Focus
The projects in this program will focus on utilizing AI and robotics for new paradigms of production enabling individualized products manufactured at efficient costs to an extent previously not possible. Research focuses on two areas:
- New paradigms of production– AI-controlled modular manufacturing with flexible robotic support instead of rigid line-based manufacturing.
- New production technologies – Enabling individualized production and scaling up production more rapidly and efficiently.
